Keyshawn Johnson
ESPN Analyst
Keyshawn Johnson, the former Super Bowl champion and All Pro wide receiver, joined ESPN in 2007 as an NFL studio analyst the same day he announced his retirement from the NFL. Johnson appears on both Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown and co-hosts ESPN Radio's weekly Football Tonight Special on Fridays during the NFL season. He is a key player in ESPN's year-round NFL presentation, including NFL Draft and Super Bowl week coverage. He made his debut as a guest analyst (while still a member of the Carolina Panthers) on ESPN's main set during the 2007 NFL Draft. Previously, he hosted a weekly show on Sirius Satellite Radio called Taking it to the House.
A Los Angeles native, Johnson was a two-time All-American at USC under legendary head coach John Robinson. (He also grew up near the campus and served as a Trojans ball boy for six years during his youth.) He ranks among USC's all-time great receivers with 168 catches for 2,796 yards and 16 TDs, and led the Trojans to a Cotton Bowl victory during his junior year and a Rose Bowl victory during his senior year -earning back-to-back MVP honors. In 2007, he was inducted into the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame. Johnson graduated from USC with a bachelor's degree in history and prior to that, he attended West Los Angeles College and Dorsey High School.
Johnson was the top overall pick by the New York Jets in the 1996 NFL Draft and went on to play for four teams - New York Jets (1996-99), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2000-03), Dallas Cowboys (2004-05) and Carolina Panthers (2006) -during his 11 NFL seasons. One of the most productive receivers of his era, he had 814 receptions for 10,571 yards and 64 touchdowns in 167 games. The three-time Pro Bowler (1988, 1999, 2001) was named MVP of the 1999 Pro Bowl and helped lead the Buccaneers to a win in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003. In his final season in 2006, he caught 70 passes for 815 yards and four touchdowns, becoming just the 16th player in league history with 800 career receptions. Early in his football career, he also wrote a book, Just Give Me the Damn Ball!: The Fast Times and Hard Knocks of an NFL Rookie.
Today, in addition to his ESPN broadcasting duties, Johnson is CEO of First Picks Management, a development company that focuses on franchise businesses in the foodservice and hospitality industries. The company recently opened a number of Panera Bakery Cafes throughout the Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo areas. He is also CEO of Keyshawn Capitol Development, a real estate company dealing with properties in both the residential and commercial space - homes, apartments, restaurants and businesses - such as the mixed-use Marlton Square and Chesterfield Square projects in Los Angeles.
In 2009, Johnson will be starring in his own reality television show on A&E Networks called, Keyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design - a 10-episode series showing his hidden talents as an interior designer. What used to be a hobby for Johnson with furniture, fabric and finishings will now be applied to real-life settings where he will help clients renovate various aspects of their home. This show was a natural extension to his many years of buying, renovating and selling homes. He has also started a production company of his own, 1925 Productions.
